Major Road Projects
I-65 Improvements (From SR 840 to SR 96)- The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) are proposing the improvement of Interstate 65 to relieve congestion levels and improve safety. The section of Interstate 65 within the Franklin Urban Boundary between State Route 840 to State Route 96, is also included in the August 2004 Franklin Major Thoroughfare Plan for improvement with recommendations to widen from two to four lanes in each direction.
The I-65 Widening Project will consist of the widening of I-65 from two to four lanes in each direction all within the existing right-of-way. The specific project limits are from north of State Route 840 to north of State Route 96, a total of 6.5 miles. In addition, the project scope will include the modification of the interchange at State Route 248 (Goose Creek) and widening of the State Route 248 approaches to the interchange from two lanes to four.
Construction on the section on the I-65 from north of State Route 248 to north of State 96 is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012.
The interchange modification at State Route 248 and the remaining section of I-65 from State Route 840 to State Route 248 are now listed in the current TDOT budget program and are scheduled to begin construction in the Spring of 2013.
State Route 397 (Mack Hatcher Memorial Parkway) - State Route 397, the Mack Hatcher Memorial Parkway in Williamson County, is the primary transportation concern of the city of Franklin. Due to huge demands on current and future traffic, local and state officials have requested for TDOT to improve the existing route and study the feasibility of extending the Parkway to the western portion of Williamson County. This action would create a complete loop around the city, avert traffic away from downtown Franklin and provide motorists access to other major routes in the area.
The Division of Project Management at TDOT oversees the development of this massive undertaking in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the City of Franklin and other coordinating agencies and resources.
The project encompasses two separate development processes: the improvement of the existing route and the development of the proposed western extension. Read More
Proposed Improvements to SR-11 (Nolensville Road) - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) proposes to improve SR-11 (US 31-A), Nolensville Road, from south of Burkitt Road in Williamson County to near SR-254 (Old Hickory Boulevard), in Metro Nashville-Davidson County. The proposed improvement includes the reconstruction and widening of an approximate 4.0 mile section of Nolensville Road and is intended to address congestion, improve safety, and accommodate growth in this rapidly developing area.
The existing roadway is primarily two lanes. The proposed improvements will widen the existing roadway to a five lane highway, including two 12 foot travel lanes in each direction, a 12 foot continuous turning lane, 10 foot paved shoulders/bike lanes, curb and gutter, and 5 foot sidewalks on each side.
