FRANKLIN — Williamson County school officials say students have set a new record for the number of National Merit finalists.
This year 34 students will reap scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Last year, there were 15 students from throughout the county who achieved the prestigious recognition.
Of the nearly 1.5 million entries, only 15,000 students nationwide will earn the scholarships this year. Finalists must score well on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and meet other high standards set forth by the program.
“I am so proud of the accomplishments of these students,” said Superintendent Mike Looney in a press release. “In addition, this achievement is a testament to our fabulous parents, teachers and school staffs.”
